Commuters on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line are in for faster journeys as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announces a major service upgrade.
Starting Monday, August 11, 2025, trains will operate every 10 minutes, slashing the Marina–Mile 2 travel time by eight minutes — a 44% reduction in journey time.
The improved headway will increase weekday and Saturday trips from 72 to 90, while Sunday operations remain at 22 trips. Four train sets will serve morning and evening peak hours, with two trains running during off-peak times.
LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, credited the improvement to the new rolling stock procured by the Lagos State Government, with support from the Federal Government.

“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” Akinajo said.
She added that the expanded operations foreshadow the full completion of the Blue Line to Okokomaiko by late 2026, with passenger services on the extended route starting in early 2027.
Since its debut on September 4, 2023, the Blue Line has transported over 5 million passengers, cementing its role as a vital artery in Lagos’ evolving public transport network.
