Socio-political activist and critic, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri has restated his earlier call for an urgent establishment of state police force to tackle the current devastating security situation in the country.
In a statement in Lagos on Saturday, Onitiri emphasized the importance of the state police now, to support and boost the operational performances of all other security agencies.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to outlaw open grazing nationwide to checkmate the activities of herdsmen engaging in kidnapping, ransom taking, looting, killing, maiming, raping of innocent girls and housewives, taking over, destroying of people’s farms and other criminalities.
According to him, if the state governors had cooperated with the Federal Government and showed their feelings for their people, the issue of state police force would have been a thing of the past.
Onitiri noted that the herdsmen had invaded all the forests nationwide and committing a lot of atrocities in the name of free movement.

The irony of the situation is that whenever anyone of them committed a crime and arrested, authorities in Abuja would demand him transferred to Abuja.
” And that will be the end of the matter, leaving the victims and their families to suffer the consequences.”
He also noted that because of the herders’ problems, the farmers and their families now fear for their lives and afraid to go to their farms, causing food shortages and inflation in the country.
The social critic warned that the problems of herders had got to a peak that if nothing tangible was done urgently, there might be reprisal against the herders terrorizing farmers on their farms, which might create more security problems.
On the creation of state police force, Onitiri pointed out that if the state governors had responded on time, by now, the Federal Government would have completed the exercise as a dividend of democracy.
He urged the Senators and House of Representatives members to prevail on their governors to do the needful about the state police force matter.
“We implore President Bola Tinubu to declare the Fulani bandits Terrorists organization immediately and ban open grazing.
“We democrats are tired of these endless bloodbaths flowing in Plateau and Benue States. The carnage must stop immediately, as we want peace in our land,” Onitiri stressed.
He harped passionately on the need for all the tiers of government to ensure that peace and good governance reign supreme, pointing out that most important aspect of good governance is the protection of lives and properties.
“Any government that cannot provide this has failed woefully,” he warned.
